Upcoming Volkswagen Taigun

It has been almost a decade since Volkswagen is present in the domestic auto market. Auto experts from around the world unanimously agree that the German car makers are among the leading auto manufacturers of the world, owing to their brilliant innovations. Volkswagen has delivered a similar performance in the past years with its several creations in almost all the major car segments. However, its absence in the compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment had been pointed by several prospective buyers. To mark its advent in the respective segment, Volkswagen is all geared up with its latest creation. The car that will expand the company's portfolio and incept the Indian car market as a compact SUV is Volkswagen Taigun. It was showcased as a concept in the recently concluded Auto Expo 2014 and was highly lauded by the audience. The concept car was displayed only in a petrol trim and expectations are rife that it will be joining the company's line-up by the next year. It is believed that the auto maker has gradually understood the demands of Indian buyers after witnessing the huge sales of Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster. With the launch of a new model, Volkswagen will intend to achieve similar feats with its new compact SUV and strive hard to vanquish the segment.

Engines & Specifications of Volkswagen Taigun:

The concept car showcased at the auto fiesta was incorporated with a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine with Twincharger Stratification Injection (TSI) technology. Although a mill with minuscule capacity, it will still be able to churn out a power output of almost 109 bhp with a peak torque of around 175 Nm. The engine is coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission that will deliver all the energy to its front wheels. Company sources claim that Volkswagen Taigun can clock the 0-100 kmph mark in around 9 seconds, further blistering to a top speed of 185 kmph. The overall weight of the car is astonishing and measures out to be less than 970 kg, thus, providing it the swiftness and agility required on smooth tracks. Furthermore, the car maker also claims that this compact SUV will be highly efficient on fuel economy statistics and will deliver a mileage of almost 22 kmpl.

Performance of Volkswagen Taigun:

The company is betting high on its new innovation and is leaving no stone unturned to make it a huge success. Experts believe that to be a decent road performer, a lot will depend on the car's engine, which is based on the company's EA211 advanced series. The claims of Volkswagen are big and if the car meets all the figures then undoubtedly it will achieve the unthinkable in no time.

Exterior, Interior & Safety Features of Volkswagen Taigun:

From the outlooks, Volkswagen Taigun looks stunning and its appearance has been extolled on global standards. Its styling largely reflects hints of its sibling – Volkswagen Touareg and the same can be witnessed from the compact SUV's roof rails, side panels and under body. Overall the car is approximately 3.9 m long and 1.74 m wide, with its wheelbase measuring at 2.47 m. This sub-4 m car bears a refreshing look at the front with the main grille made sleeker and provided with chrome furnished dual slats that hold the company's iconic logo. The headlamps have been lumped with LEDs for Efficient Daytime Running and similar lights have been mounted on the front roof rails, thus, providing a splendid look to the entire car. The front and rear bumpers have been given silver and aluminium protective cladding, respectively.

At the interiors, Volkswagen Taigun has been employed with technically advanced features, keeping in mind the modern day needs of passengers. From the inside, this car is expected to be available in a dual tone colour shade of beige and black. The car will also be equipped with finely-stitched premium quality upholstery featuring a honeycomb pattern. All the passenger seats are comfortable with sufficient leg-room along with the entire car being made capacious. The dashboard is designed immaculately and is provided with air conditioning vents, necessary consoles and a newly developed infotainment system. Enough technical toys have been employed at the interiors, such as tilt adjustable steering column, electrically adjustable side mirrors and entertainment system with Bluetooth, USB, AUX connectivity.

For safety purposes, the company has fitted the car with front and rear disc brakes along with an Electronic Stability Program, which minimises the loss of traction. Further enhancing the safety, it is speculated that the car will be arriving with the features of Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Multiple airbags will be fitted for extensive care to the passengers in case of any adversity and the suspension will bear the advanced features of stabilising bars and coil springs. When the car will be launched, it is expected to fall in the price bracket of Rs. 9 lakh – Rs. 13 lakh, thereby giving a stiff competition to the ongoing Renault Duster and to be launched Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha.
