Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Swift

The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift Hybrid has been spotted as well which relies on IGS (Integrated Starter Generator) to assist engine during acceleration

The Swift compact hatchback plays an integral part in the industry dominance of Maruti Suzuki ever since it was launched in 2005. It is part of the Indo-Japanese company’s four constant best-sellers alongside the Alto, WagonR and the Swift Dzire sub-4m sibling. The popular Swift hatchback had underwent several upgrades through its over a decade of running on Indian roads. Within two years of its launch, Maruti Suzuki introduced a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine sourced from Fiat and to comply with the BSIV emission regulations, the 1.3-litre petrol motor was replaced with a smaller 1.2 K Series engine in 2010.

In April 2011, an all-new generation based on the global model came into the fore with longer frame, new headlights and stretched taillights accompanied by refreshed interiors and features. Even after 11 years, the Swift is still the master of the compact hatchback segment as 1,95,043 units were retailed in FY2016 in comparison to 2,10,338 examples in the previous Financial Year.

To sustain its dominance in the segment, an all new generation model is expected to arrive at Indian shores sometime next year and we have already had the glimpses of how it will look like courtesy of the leaked patented images of the global model. Here’s everything you need to know about the 2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift.

2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift India Launch:
The 2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift could be launched in India sometime next year. Based on the fifth generation global model, India could be the first country to receive the new car before stepping into Europe. The Gujarat manufacturing facility is more likely to export new Swift to several Asian and European nations. It will be publicly revealed for the first time at 9:00 AM on September 29th, 2016 in the Paris Motor Show.

2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift Expected Price:
The new Swift is more likely to be priced between Rs. 5.5 lakh for the base model and it goes all the way up to Rs. 8.5 lakh for the range-topping variant.

Engine, Performance and Mileage:

The 2017 Swift is more likely to get 1.0-litre turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine alongside the existing mills. It’s expected to have the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine as well and the powerful 1.5-litre could come in a later time.
Although, some claims say the 1.2-litre K-Series engine will get an upgrade, we think it will retain the existing power and torque figures. The DOHC engine with Multipoint injection will make 83 bhp at 6000 rpm and 115 Nm at 4000 rpm. The 1.3-litre turbo-diesel DDiS engine will continue to churn out 74 bhp at 4000 rpm and 190 Nm at 2000 rpm. Both engines will be coupled with a five-speed manual transmission and an AMT version on the diesel is expected to come first. The petrol is expected to have claimed mileage of over 21 kmpl while the diesel could offer over 26 kmpl courtesy of the new platform and efficient mechanical treatment.
The Swift SHVS has been spotted as well which relies on IGS (Integrated Starter Generator) to assist engine during acceleration as in the Baleno SHVS. It generates electricity via regenerative braking and the interior spyshot denoted an LCD display showing 80 per cent charged lithium-ion battery.

2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift Interior and Features:

The changes are not restricted to the exterior as inside the cabin the new-gen Swift could feature a new multi-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls, large two-pod instrument binnacle with multi-info display wedged in the centre, revised HVAC controls, upgraded AC system, improved buttons and dials, contrasting fabric stitches on the door trims and dashboard, etc.

Dual airbags are believed to be offered as standard across all variants for improved safety quotient and the cabin space could be increased as well due to the Swift being based on the Baleno’s platform.

2017 Maruti Suzuki Swift Dimensions & Exterior:
The Swift hatchback currently measures 3850 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, 1,530 mm in height and features a wheelbase of 2430 mm with ground clearance 170 mm. The bootspace capacity stands at 205 litres and the fuel tank can load up to 42 liters.

Expect these numbers to have slight revisions with increased cabin and boot space. The platform the new Swift will be built on is more likely to be lighter, thus expect a kerb weight below 965 kilograms. It will be based on a new, lighter and rigid platform debuted in the Baleno. The exterior design is an evolution from the current car as the overall shape will let you instantly recognise it’s a ‘Swift’. With that DNA, there are several new bits like floating roofline just as seen on the recently launched Vitara Brezza subcompact SUV but more sportier to suit the hatchback style.

The front grille has been extensively revised and now receives hexagonal treatment to spur up an aggressive face. The headlamps are now sharper than before with a new design and houses LED Daytime Running Lights. The air intake has become larger in size while the fog lamps occupy more area than it presently does.

At the rear, the sporty silhouette stays intact but just ahead, the C-pillar has been darkened with wraparound tail lamps and there are substantial creases. The hidden door handles resemble the ones found on the Chevrolet Beat and Mahindra KUV100 as they are moved up to allow for a funky appearance. The evolutionary design is predicted to be an instant hit among customers with black bumpers and push-though exhausts.
