Ssangyong has debuted the Tivoli XLV in the UK. The XLV serves as a longer version of the regular Tivoli and offers more carrying capacity and practicality for buyers. SsangYong’s Tivoli XLV is based on the Tivoli’s platform and in the process shares an identical 2600mm wheelbase. However, it differs from the regular Tivoli by the extra length of 238mm that it gains after the C-pillar.
Ssangyong Tivoli Overview:
Mahindra has already unveiled the Ssangyong Tivoli at the Auto Expo 2016. The compact SUV will be Mahindra’s offering for premium car buyers, the ones who prefer cars with a global pedigree. The Tivoli has been conceptualised and built to European standards and will look to revive the Ssangyong which is lying low after the launch of the Rexton a few years back.
The Ssangyong Tivoli looks like a typical SUV – a decked up front fascia and high mounted headlamps. It gets a thin horizontal grille and a bumper with slightly unconventional cuts and creases. The side profile is also interesting with haunches over the two wheels – something the KUV100 seems to have taken an inspiration from. The LED tail lamps stand out on the rear looking like a distant cousin of the Mini Countryman.
On the inside, the Tivoli is tech-laden. You have a touch-screen infotainment system, automatic climate control, push-button start and cruise control. The seats are well contoured and the driver seat is height adjustable. The binnacle in the instrument cluster has analog clocks that read out the speed and the revs while the MID sandwiched between them gives you all the vital information like fuel economy, distance to empty, engine temperature etc.
As for safety, the Tivoli has more than 70 per cent high-strength steel in its construction, seven airbags and electronic stability control programme. ABS and EBD may be standard across the range. Under the hood, you will have the 1.6-litre Falcon series engines available with both petrol and diesel fuel options. The 1.6-litre petrol develops 125bhp of power and 157Nm of torque while the diesel produces 113bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. The engines will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission and will power the front wheels. You may also get an automatic option and probably all-wheel-drive too.
The Tivoli will be a premium compact SUV and will probably be positioned above the Cretas and the Dusters to compete with the likes of the Honda CRV, the upcoming Hyundai Tucson and the Skoda Yeti.
