The Honda Brio facelift was recently launched in Indonesia. The same model will be soon launched in our country as well. Honda has tweaked the exterior and interior of the car. In terms of external appearance, it gets a new grille, larger air intakes, new bumpers and a chrome strip at the back of the car.
Honda Brio Overview
Honda stepped in India with premium offerings like the City, Accord and CR-V. It helped the brand establish a niche and also attain a status of premium among other car makers back then but then as other players started entering India; Honda was forced to take aggressive steps. They devised a strategy to enter the entry class of vehicles and considering India’s love for hatchbacks, it was extremely sensible for Honda to launch the Brio, a compact hatchback with the fit and finish that none of its rivals offered at its time.
Launched in 2011, it got a warm start and many were attracted to this peppy hatch but not for too long. Sadly, in spite of offering the best levels of fitment and quality of interiors, the Brio couldn’t perform as Honda had wished it to. The reasons for its discouraging performance were many but the one which stood tall was the lack of a diesel engine. India’s preference for diesel can be seen with the variety of options in the car market and the Brio faced head for the same. However, things are supposed to change considering the Amaze and the Mobilio have raised everyone’s expectations from Honda now that the company finally entered the diesel class. After six years, Honda is all set to launch the next generation Brio in India which will be made in India with India specific requirements.
Exterior and Interior of Honda Brio 2017
Still in the concept stage, it is not clear as to how the new generation Honda Brio will look. The company might go in for a new design language for the Brio as the existing looks too dated and is also very similar to the Mobilio and Amaze. The new generation Brio is expected to look larger than before with slimmer headlamps and a petite little grille. While the side profile is expected to get a change in terms of roofline, the shoulder profile and overall feel will continue to remain same. To make it exciting to look at, Honda might also fit alloy wheels with a modern design.
The interiors of new generation Honda Brio will also receive considerable revamp considering the present version doesn’t feel as premium as its rivals feel. The dashboard and central layout will get a major upgrade with a larger touchscreen unit. The new generation Honda Brio will also be a grander in space. While the front passenger space will continue to remain as much, the rear kneeroom and shoulder room area is expected to increase. Also, this time, it might get a conventional tail gate instead of the hardened glass arrangement.
Performance of Honda Brio 2017
It is not too tough to know that the new generation Honda Brio will be offered in diesel in addition to its petrol variant. However, we need to see if Honda will equip the Brio with the same line-up of motors or if it gets a totally new setup with a strong speculation on a 1.1-litre three cylinder diesel unit. The platform for the new generation Brio is already in works and will also be an underpinning for other products from the brand.
The new gen Brio, if offered with the present options, will get a 1.5-litre diesel motor which makes a power of 99 bhp and a torque rating of 200 Nm. While the 1.2-litre iVTEC motor makes 87 bhp of power and 109 Nm of torque. Both the motors will be offered with a 5-speed manual transmission with an optional 5-speed automatic too.
Conclusion on Honda Brio 2017
Upon its launch in India in early 2017, the new generation Honda Brio will rival the likes of Hyundai Grandi10, Chevrolet Beat and new generation Ford Figo. We expect the price of new Honda Brio 2017 to be between Rs 4.5 lakhs to Rs 6.5 lakhs.
