Buoyed by the excellent response for Zest compact sedan, Tata Motors is now aiming to launch a series of all-new cars in the country under its HORIZONEXT umbrella. The company will launch the Bolt hatchback on January 20, 2015, and is preparing a couple of all new compact cars. Codenamed as Kite, the new project comprises of two cars including a compact hatchback and the compact sedan. The Kite hatchback which will likely be called as Tata Tiago will be launched this year, while the entry level sedan launch likely by year end or early next year.
Tata Kite Overview
Similar to the Upcoming Tata Kite replacing the Indica eV2, the sedan based on this hatchback will be a budget successor of the Indigo eCS compact sedan. The Kite sedan will be based on the same platform and will be a sub 4-meter offering thus attracting tax benefits.
Exteriors and Interiors of Tata Kite Sedan
In the Kite sedan, there will be an additional boot section over the hatchback. This will prove to be of great advantage in terms of luggage stowage capacity. It is still very dodgy to comment on its design as the test cars are completely camouflaged. We expect it to have similar styling as the Kite hatchback.
Tata Kite sedan will also prove to be as spacious as the Indigo eCS and will also have the best in class rear leg space compared to its rivals. The front dashboard, instrumental cluster and the steering wheel will be shared between the hatch and the sedan proving it to be a low cost measure.
Engine, Performance and Mileage of Tata Kite Sedan
The Kite sedan too will be powered by a 1.05 litre tri-cylinder engine. This mill will be mated with a five-speed manual gearbox producing 64.1 bhp of power and 140.27 Nm of torque. The car is expected to come in both diesel and petrol engines. The Kite sedan will also be offered in CNG and AMT variants.
Conclusion on Tata Kite Sedan
Being a low cost sedan, the Tata Kite will sit at the starting range of C-segment of cars sold in India. It will primarily compete against Chevrolet Sail sedan, Ford Classic and Hyundai Xcent. Tata Kite sedan prices will range in between Rs.4.5 lakhs to Rs. 5.5 lakhs.
