However, the Fortuner is fast inching close to the fag-end of its career and will be soon replaced by an all-new model that was unveiled in Thailand this year. The next generation Fortuner features a much more flashy exterior styling, comfortable cabin and the bulletproof reliability that is a characteristic of every Toyota product. 2016 Toyota Fortuner India Launch Date:

Details on 2016 Toyota Fortuner India launch date are scarce, but it feels like the new model Fortuner will not make it to India until 2017. Initially, it was speculated that the 2016 Toyota Fortuner India debut will take place alongside that of the 2016 Innova at the Auto Expo 2016. However, new rumours later cropped up stating that the new 2016 Toyota Fotuner India launch won’t take place anytime before next year. In a latest development, however, Toyota Kirloskar Motor India has started testing the Fortuner on Indian public roads. The manufacturer earlier showed displeasure with NGT’s ban on Diesel cars powered by engines displacing 2000cc or above. TKM has said that it might need to shelve it plans to bring the latest Toyota vehicles to India if such a ban becomes a permanent feature. However, now it seems TKM has begun readying the Fortuner for India launch.

While it is a tad too early to comment on the 2016 Toyota Fortuner India price, we believe that the all-new model will be slightly pricier than the current car and could retail at a starting price of INR 28 lakhs (ex-showroom). In Australia, where the new Fortuner is already on sale, the prices start at around INR 24 lacs.

New 2016 Toyota Fortuner Specifications:

As already said by us, the 2016 Fortuner is underpinned by an all-new ladder-frame chassis, and is powered by a set of all-new ‘GD’ four-cylinder diesel engines that are greener, more powerful and more frugal than the current motors. Engines from the ‘GD’ series comprise of 2.4-litre and 2.8-litre turbocharged units that boast of “Economy with Superior Thermal Efficient Combustion (ESTEC)” technology and a variable-geometric turbocharger. While the 2.4-litre engine has a maximum power of 150 PS and peak torque of 400 Nm, the bigger 2.8-litre unit pumps out 177 PS and 450 Nm. The engines will be available with options of 6-speed manual and automatic gearboxes.

The 2016 Fortuner will boast of ‘GD’ Diesel engines that will replace the current ‘KD’ series engines. The new engines are upto 10% more economical, which means the car will definitely have a slightly higher fuel mileage. Also, the low-weight platform further boost the fuel mileage. The New 2016 Toyota Fortuner India mileage could be 12 kmpl – 14 kmpl.

The Fortuner 2016 model is underpinned by Toyota’s all-new platform that is not only more robust but also aids the ride and handling. This latest platform has been named as the FIRM (Frame with Integrated Rigidity Mechanism), the latest platform boasts of a technology that not only improves the safety but also enhances the ride and handling qualities. The front-end of the Fortuner 2016 gets really aggressive with sharply-styled grille and really sleek headlamps. The dual projector headlamps and LED fixtures and DRLs give it a premium look too. The front bumper too is very muscular and gets bits like a large air dam and integrated reflectors. Other highlights of the front-end are several chrome bits and a prominent hood.

The fully loaded models of the new Fortuner 2016 will get stylish 18-inch alloy wheels. However, the lower trims will get 17-inch steel wheels that will come shod with all-terrain tires.Highlights of the car’s side profile include an wrap-around taillamps, a well pronounced shoulder line and come chrome garnishing to enhance the visual appeal. At the rear the car features a stylish set of taillights with LED fixtures and integrated relectors on the bumper. Dimensionally, the new Fortuner 2016 isn’t too different from the outgoing model. It measures 4,795mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,835mm in height. The 2016 Toyota Fortuner boasts of a wheelbase of 2,745 mm and it has a and ground clearance of 225mm. The new model Fortuner has a fuel tank capacity of 80-litres.
