Honda Amaze is the company’s first compact sedan and it has done exceptionally for the company. This became the first Honda in India to get a diesel engine as well. The Honda Amaze comes with a new face post the update. The Amaze has a petrol and diesel engine on offer. The 1.2-litre petrol comes with manual and automatic transmission options and the diesel comes with a manual option only. The Honda Amaze shares its platform with the Brio, Mobilio and even the BR-V. This platform has been made for developing and emerging markets and it suits the south-east Asian market requirements. Japanese carmaker Honda has just launched the new facelifted Amaze model at a starting price tag of Rs 5.29 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi).
Exterior
Honda Amaze is based on the Brio platform and the design similarity is visible. The Amaze gets a new front grille that has a thick chrome slat and this is similar to the Mobilio, and even the headlamp is similar. The face of the Amaze has changed drastically. The side profile of the Amaze is very much the same, it has the Brio design till the B-pillar. Post which the rear door is longer than the Brio. The rear also get minor tweak in styling. Honda Amaze will come with six colour options, namely, Alabaster Silver, Carnelian Red, Crystal Black Pearl, Majestic Blue, Tafeta White and even Urban Titanium Metallic.
Interior
The interior space of the Amaze is the same. With Honda’s Man Maximum Machine Minimum strategy, Honda Amaze is one of the most spacious compact sedan. It has good space at the front and even the rear and it has a boot capacity of 400 litres, which is one of the highest in its segment. The Amaze facelift has been set of interiors with piano black centre console, new air-con vents (which are rectangular), then there is a new music system, new instrument cluster also.
Engine & Transmission
The Honda Amaze comes with a 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine that produces about 87bhp of power and 110Nm of peak torque. The diesel on the other hand is a 1.5-litre engine that churns 98bhp of power and 200Nm of maximum torque. These engines come with a five-speed manual transmission. The petrol also comes with a five-speed automatic transmission as well.
Performance and Handling
The Honda Amaze comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 87bhp of power and 110Nm of peak torque. The 1.5-litre diesel engine at 98bhp is a lot more powerful. The Amaze has good power and more importantly it has good handling characteristics as well. The ride quality of the Amaze is a lot more superior to the competition.
Braking System
The Honda Amaze has front disc brakes, while the rear are drums. It comes with ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake force distribution), but these aren’t offered across all the variants. It is available only on higher variants.
Mileage
The 1498 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 23 kmpl in city and 25 kmpl on highways, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 15 kmpl on urban roads and 17 kmpl and freeways, respectively.
Safety Features
The Honda Amaze is offering features like dual airbags and even ABS. This will be made optional on all the variants. The Amaze even has engine immobiliser, WAVE key, high mounted stop lamp, front seat belt and driver seat belt reminder as well.
